Floor & Decor Shopping Trip {Woodbridge, Virginia}

Floor & Décor Shopping Trip

Visiting the Floor & Décor store in Northern Virginia has been our quarterly goal… for almost over a year! Haha! This past weekend, we finally went on a shopping adventure to Floor & Décor. This time was different… we decided that we would go to Floor & Décor BEFORE we went to IKEA, the Potomac Mills Mall, Hobby Lobby &/or the Home Goods & Marshall’s combo store. 🙂

We were shopping to get flooring & kitchen backsplash ideas. Before we sell our home, we want to replace all of the flooring. Thankfully, we’ve already got a head start with conquering the flooring in our laundry room

IKEA… was last on our shopping trip adventure… for a reason…

Every time we’d be shopping at IKEA, we’d get the brilliant idea to check out the Floor & Décor {a few short minutes away} after we finished shopping at IKEA. But… if you’ve ever been to an IKEA, by the time you make it through the maze of the floor displays, the warehouse, clearance section & then survive the long check-out line & then the even longer pick-up line… your brain is mush, you’re irritable, tired &  just want a nap.

I’m not sure what I was expecting exactly, but from the way that I’ve heard others talk about it, I was expecting to be wowed! Although the store was huge & had a good selection, I couldn’t help but feel a bit underwhelmed.

 There were a few displays near the front of the store, but that was it… I guess I was expecting more

The lack of having a tiled backsplash in my kitchen is a major pet peeve. Thankfully we’ve finished phase 1 of our kitchen makeover, which involved painting. Our kitchen is now ready to be “dressed-up” with a backsplash.

floor & decor backsplash options

Of course, since we’re going to be selling our home in the near future, we don’t want to choose a “trendy” tile. In other words, we don’t want to install a backsplash that will go “out of style” within a year. I don’t think we could go wrong with a marble backsplash, but I haven’t found one that I’m 100% in love with.

Subway tile? No fucking thank you…

Surprisingly, I really liked the mini marble subway tiles. Why is it surprising? I fucking HATE white subway tile. Seriously, everyone has jumped on that bandwagon & I’m over here cringing with disgust. White subway tile reminds me of a really disgusting gas station bathroom. Like the super shady gas station bathrooms, where you access the bathroom from outside the building…expecting to walk-in on a heroin junkie shooting heroin.

Yes, I’m crazy, but I’m also beautiful, so it’s okay. 😉

We also don’t want to install any backsplash that would be “buyer-specific” either. If that doesn’t make it a bit complicated… it also has to be something that we at least like. The hubster isn’t quite as crazy as me nor does he have extreme hatred for certain tile styles.

Hubster sorta liked these backsplash options…

Call me crazy, but I really liked the design of this tile. The 3-dimensional effect reminds me of one of my favorite movies, The Labyrinth.

trippy 3-dimensional tile

It definitely has visual appeal & is far from boring. 🙂

Too extra for a backsplash , BUT…

How freaking cool are these mirrored tiles? The mirror junkie inside of me was instantly drawn to these gorgeous babies.

I’m not kidding, I love mirrors… I have almost 30 in our home! 🙂 They are super EXTRA for a kitchen backsplash, BUT… they would be bomb.com for a small-scale DIY project.

The flooring…

Yay! Now we can finally cross-off the Floor & Décor adventure from our Q-3 goals! Although we didn’t instantly fall in love with any particular flooring or backsplash option, there are a few that we’ve added to the “possibility list.” Perhaps it was wishful thinking, but I was hoping that this shopping trip would help make those decisions a bit easier. Oh well, it never hurts to have hope, right?

{P.S. If shopping turns you into a ravenous beast, check out the Silver Diner, a few minutes away from the Floor & Décor. I highly recommend their grass-fed beef sliders.}
