MY NATURAL BEAUTY PICKS FOR JANUARY
A few weeks before your organic beauty box ships, you have the option to pick 2 items to be included in your box.
Gaffer & Child // Facial Cleanser // full-size // $26.00
This pick was pretty much a no-brainer for me. I’m obsessed with skin care, love trying new green beauty brands & you can’t get more practical than a facial cleanser. This facial cleanser is AMAZING & blows my $80.00 cleanser out of the water!
This all-natural & organic cleanser removes every stitch of my organic foundation & leaves my skin feeling refreshed without feeling tight & dry. This is definitely my favorite & I will re-purchase this cleanser again.
Élan Veda // All Headaches Essential Oil Roll-On // travel-size // $10.00
Every so often I suffer from debilitating migraines for days at a time & while I would do anything for relief, I have a strong stance against pharma drugs. The delivery of my good being box this month came during another one of my migraine episodes. I tried this headache oil after receiving cranial adjustments & electrical muscle stimulation from my chiropractor, because I was still in a great deal of pain.
While I refer to myself as a hippie, I remain skeptical about the efficacy of essential oils. The few times I’ve tried essential oils in “healing-type” products, they never worked for me… & this product didn’t work for me either.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I do have an autoimmune disorder; experience pain that’s more than just “surface-level”; & it took about 5 chiropractor visits to correct the pain.
Despite my stance on essential oils for pain relief, this oil blend smells amazing, so I’ll be using this as a calming oil.
CURATED GREEN BEAUTY ITEMS FROM GOOD BEING BEAUTY BOX’S TEAM
AILA // 11-free Nail Laquer in Bless Your Heart // full-size // $14.00
I would describe this nail polish color as a gorgeous rose/mauve, but the info card describes it as a deep peachy rose. Same difference, right?
Even better than the gorgeous color, this nail polish is free of the 11 most toxic ingredients found in most nail polishes. I haven’t heard of or tried anything from the AILA brand, but that’s probably because Trust Fund Beauty is my holy-grail for “less toxic” nail polish.
AILA // 3-in-1 Soy Based Nail Color Remover Cloths // 1 cloth // $1.00
Trust Fund Beauty is also my go-to for all-natural nail polish remover … & it smells amazing!! Even though I do try to avoid soy as much as possible, I may give this remover cloth a try. The info card states that it’s 100% natural, plant-based & free of acetone & acetate.
Previse DermApothecary // Marine Granules Skin Brightening Botanical Scrub // travel-size // $11.25
I have a moisturizer from Previse & love it, but I’m not a huge fan of this marine botanical face scrub. I’m very particular with face scrubs & don’t like ones with particles as tiny as sand.
I tried this once & it was almost impossible to remove all of the scrub particles from my face. I will stick to my holy-grail face scrub & won’t be purchasing the full-size of this product.
Stinkbug Organics // Natural Deodorant in Tangerine Spice // travel-size // $3.95
I’ve had the worst experiences with the majority of non-toxic deodorants that I’ve tried. Mostly because my skin doesn’t react well to sodium bicarbonate {baking soda}. Between a week to a month is when my skin decides to develop an allergic reaction to sodium bicarbonate. Trust me, it’s NOT fun to have inflamed armpits that feel raw & on fire.
Yet, I decided to at least give this brand a try for 2 days. Thankfully, my skin didn’t react like a jerk, but… holy shit, my arm pits stunk so fucking bad. It’s bizarre because it takes a LOT to make me sweat… like I’d have to run a mile before I start sweating.
It’s even more bizarre because my body has already gone through the “toxic deodorant de-tox” phase 2 years ago. Nevertheless, this deodorant is going in the trash & I’ll stick to my Thai Crystal Deodorant Stone.

GOOD BEING BEAUTY BOX – MY JANUARY 2018 VERDICT
Green beauty subscription boxes are like boxes of chocolate, you never know what you’re going to get! This month’s box was so-so for me, not quite as awesome as my July or November boxes. The stand-out green beauty item that I will purchase is the face cleanser. I’m excited to paint my nails & use the new plant-based nail polish remover. The other 3 items didn’t impress me – especially the natural deodorant.
This is the 1st of 3 good being beauty box reviews that I’ll be sharing this year. I cancelled my subscription, but will still receive February & March boxes since I paid for the quarterly subscription. The main reason is that I want to use what I already have & avoid hyper-consumption.
