Upcycled Vintage Window into Jewelry Display
Learn how I upcycled a vintage window into an artful jewelry display. This DIY gives your jewelry storage & organization in an artful display.
IT ALL STARTS WITH AN ANTIQUE FIND
Although this DIY project is 5 years old, it still remains one of my favorites. It all started when I found this treasure at an antique mall in Pennsylvania. The vintage window frame had its original chippy white paint & was upcycled into a unique corkboard by the dealer. A brilliant idea popped into my head that I could easily jazz-up the vintage window frame into an artful jewelry display.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Vintage window frame OR large frame
- Roll of corkboard
- Cup hooks
- Paint or spray paint for the frame
- Spray paint
- If you want to change the color of the mug hooks
- Fabric
THE VINTAGE WINDOW MAKEOVER BEGINS
The two-toned look was achieved with some vintage-inspired paint from the Valspar paint collection. For extra storage, I added coffee mug hooks around the sides & on the bottom. The mug hooks were originally an ugly brass color, so I spray painted them silver. Below is a closer look of the mug hook.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR JEWELRY DISPLAY WITH FABRIC
To disguise the ugly corkboard & to add some customization, I added some fabric to the corkboard panels. I was able to shimmy the fabric underneath the edges, so I didn’t have to use staples. Since the fabric isn’t permanently “installed”, I can easily switch up the fabric for a new look, which I’ve done many times. The fabric below is the current fabric that I’m using that I purchased from Wal-Mart’s clearance fabric remnant section.
There wasn’t a need for me to change anything on the back, so this is exactly how it looked when I purchased it several years ago. It still has the lovely note from the original upcycle -er. (Pennsylvanians are sooo nice!)
I’ve done many, many DIY projects over the past few years, but this still remains my favorite. It has followed me & survived moving 3 times so far! For now, the jewelry display calls “The Girl Cave” (aka my walk-in closet), its home.
DISPLAY THE ITEMS THAT BRING YOU JOY
I love that my jewelry that has a lot of sentimental value is displayed in a creatively beautifully artful manner. Items that bring you joy should be visible & not hidden away in a box.
I wouldn’t recommend hanging expensive or dainty pieces, but this is perfect for displaying chunky costume jewelry, both vintage & modern.
Are you curious how the jewelry is hanging on the corkboard? I’ll tell you my secret…DIY Custom Pushpins!
Every single time I look at this vintage window makeover into a jewelry display, my heart can’t help but smile. The sentimental side of me loves seeing both of my granny’s jewelry & trinkets displayed in such a unique & artful manner. It’s the little things that matter when you’re going through a grieving process that never seems to end.
